Knowing what to expect will help you be more prepared on the day of your treatment and after it.
Before
Before doing anything to your skin, you will have an initial consultation with professionals. They will examine the treatment area, and they may also want to discuss your medical history with you.
The treatment area should be clear when it is time to begin the treatment, so it must be free of makeup and dirt – the technician will cleanse your skin thoroughly.
For the entire procedure you will cover your eyes by placing protective goggles over them. The procedure requires a thin application of carbon lotion all over the surface of your skin. The texture and dark grey colour of the lotion may remind you of a clay or mud mask.
After applying, there are 2 ways for the carbon mask to set into your skin. The first uses the laser to heat the substance and bond the carbon. Alternatively, they can wait for the substance to adhere to your face, which can take about 20 minutes.
Once the mask is dried, the aesthetician will use a Spectra™ Q-switched 1064 laser to extract it from your face. During this time, you may feel sensations similar to a small prick. You will also hear snapping sounds as it attracts the carbon and peels it off. They will make multiple passes over your face to remove it entirely. Wisps of smoke can also appear as the laser passes.
After
The procedure finishes once the operator has lifted all of the carbon from your face. Along with it, the laser has peeled off all the impurities on your face. It also boosts collagen production, which makes your skin firmer. There is no downtime for this, so you can go on and resume your activities for the day.
